Two radio reporters are murdered in Honduras after leaving their radio station
Honduras is fast becoming one of the most dangerous nation for journalists to work in, after two reporters for Radio Excelsior were gunned down on Friday. The car that 52-year old Jose Bayardo and Manuel de Jesus Juarez, age 55, were traveling in was riddled with bullets by unknown gunmen after the pair left the station. Overall, five journalists, including Radio America reporter David Meza, have been killed in Honduras in March. In addition, Radio Without Borders says Honduran Radio Uno in the city of San Pedro Sula has received threats due to its reporting on human rights violations. No arrests have been made in any of the five murders. Threats against journalists in Honduras increased sharply following last year’s coup that ousted President Manuel Zelaya.
