Vancouver, British Columbia gains four new FMs, loses an AM

vancouver__2_Two of the new FMs will be doing adult alternative, sometimes known as "AAA." One belongs to a new group calling itself Shore FM, and its principals include longtime Vancouver-based artist manager and talent agent Sam Feldman, who's worked with stars such as Norah Jones and Joni Mitchell. His group gets the new 104.1 (with 8-kw of power) and will emphasize new music and emerging artists - a bit "edgier" than the other new one. That second new AAA station on FM replaces a current AM: Jim Pattison Broadcast Group's CKBD at 600 KHz. 600, like so many other Canadian AMs, will go silent and be succeeded by a new 14-kw FM at 100.5 - also featuring newer music and artists, but leaning toward the softer side. A third new FM belongs to CBC's Radio One, which will simulcast on its current 690 AM and a new 88.1 FM (with 19.5-kw). The fourth new FM goes to Matthew McBride, for a new 1-kw FM at 98.7. While we're in British Columbia - the CRTC has also approved the proposal for a "diversified rock music station" to serve Chilliwack. That will be CJVR at 89.5, operating wtoh 1,600 watts.
