Veteran NYC talker Curtis Sliwa to undergo prostate cancer surgery tomorrow
He'll do his show on Salem's "Apple" WNYM (970) until 8am, then go to Mount Sinai School of Medicine for a robotic radical prostatectomy. Guardian Angels founder Sliwa ("SLEE-wuh") says the original diagnosis was made a year ago in a biopsy, and he attempted to treat it with "a homeopathic and holistic regiment that included everything from vitamin drips to eating raw vegetables." Radiation therapy or the "seed implant" technology weren't indicated, because of scarring from the 1992 incident where he was shot in a controversial attempted kidnapping. The New York Daily News reports that he announced on the air this morning just what's happening. Sliwa himself later writes that "Over the past week, my symptoms were such that it was determined that surgery would have to take place tomorrow at 10am." He expects to be off the air for a week, though he's optimistically shooting for a return Monday - "with catheter in hand." The New York Board of Radio-Info.com is talking about Curtis, here.
