Wheeling's 50-kw WWVA (1170) is silent after storms (video); FM sibs are back
Wednesday afternoon, all three sticks of “Big One” WWVA located in St. Clairsville, Ohio were wrecked by the the high winds of a storm. Check the video here. Talker WWVA is off the air and Clear Channel says its lineup, starting with the 6-9am Bloomdaddy, will temporarily be heard on sister WBBD (1400). It normally features adult standards. Radio-Info is told that two FMs which were affected are coming back, thanks to all-night work by the engineers. AC “Mix 97.3” WKWK was back on the air by 6am, and country WOVK (98.7) is back at half power. More about the storm damage and pictures of the WWVA towers on the ground from the station site here. The Pittsburgh Board of Radio-Info.com is talking about the destruction here.
