With no notice, Cumulus signs off an AM and FM in Louisville
One poster on the Kentucky Board of Radio-Info.com reports “there’s no dead air, no carrier. Gone.” It appears the stations are about to be sold, and the FM may play a role in upgrading a Cumulus Media Partners station on the same frequency in Indianapolis. The stations that signed off Monday (8/2) are sports WQKC, Jeffersonville, Indiana (1450) and “Classic hits 93.9” WLCL, Sellersburg, Indiana. Class A WLCL is co-channel with Indy-market Top 40 “i94” WRWM. i94 is currently a Class A licensed to Fishers, Indiana, but it’s holding a construction permit to re-license to Lawrence and to upgrade to B1 status. It’s possible that Cumulus has a further to upgrade WRWM to an even better facility, with WLCL off the air and possibly ready to be re-engineered by a future owner. Local speculation is that “K-Love” parent Educational Media Foundation may be the buyer for WLCL. The Kentucky Board of Radio-Info talks about the two unexplained signoffs.
