XM Canada makes a deal with musicians groups over royalty payments
Four different groups representing Canadian musicians and songwriters have reached an agreement with XM Canada over royalty payments. The Canadian Press reports the deal will include “retroactive payments owed and on-going monthly payments.” The retroactivity reaches back to 2005, when XM Canada first signed on. XM Canada president and chief executive Michael Moskowitz says “We recognize the important role these organizations play in supporting Canadian artists, and this agreement allows us to balance the retroactive amount owed with the ongoing investment required to continue building on our own success.”
