Fresh Listen: KNIN Wichita Falls, Texas
Since it was Townsquare Media's KNIN Wichita Falls, Texas, PD Chris Callaway whose complaints about the increased similarity between Mainstream and Rhythmic Top 40 prompted this week’s column on the Top 40 chart, and whether it's driven by reporting status or available product, it seemed like the time for a Fresh Listen to this heritage CHR.KNIN, as heard during Callaway’s afternoon shift, is a good-sounding small-market CHR. There is Rhythmic pop, but it tends to be those songs that already have some adult legitimacy. It’s sort of where KMXV Kansas City was in its evolution about 18 months ago. And there were at least two songs I hadn’t yet encountered elsewhere in my CHR listening in this sample at 3:35 p.m. on Thursday, March 16:
Hinder, “What You Gonna Do”
Pitbull, “Give Me Everything”
Justin Timberlake, “What Goes Around Comes Around”
Mat Kearney, “Hey Mama” (the No. 1 request on the station, Callaway says)
Ke$ha, “Blow”
Bruno Mars, “The Lazy Song”
Nelly, “Just A Dream”
Pink, “F**kin Perfect”
Green Day, “When I Come Around”
Katy Perry, “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)”
Adele, “Rolling In The Deep”
Taio Cruz, “Dynamite”
Cee-Lo Green, “Forget You”

At Jones Radio Networks in the late '90s, I consulted with KNIN on its playlist. If memory serves, this is the station that broke hometown boys Bowling for Soup by giving heavy rotation to "The Bitch Song." Good to see they're still saving slots for adventurous new music!
