KUPL Portland Launches Droid App
Alpha Broadcasting’s country KUPL
Portland, Ore., has launched its latest mobile phone app, this time for the
Droid, becoming what the company claims is “the first pure listen live app for
that particular device.” KUPL listeners who are Droid users now have the
ability to listen live, view song lyrics, see artist and album information,
read reviews, watch videos, listen to station podcasts, hear samples of
recently played songs and purchase music through Amazon.com via their mobile
devices. The Droid app, like Alpha’s previously released iPhone and Blackberry
apps, is free of charge, requires no registration and is powered by AirKast.
AirKast delivers branded applications that contain real-time digital media and online content to mobile and other consumer electronic devices. For the KUPL Droid app, Alpha Broadcasting leveraged TuneKast, a solution designed for terrestrial and Internet-based radio stations. TuneKast also features a background player, which allows listeners to hear content from KUPL while using other Droid applications.
