Veteran WQDR Raleigh Personality Jaybo Succumbs To Cancer
WQDR (94.7) Raleigh, N.C., air personality Jay “Jaybo” Butler is dead at 58, after fighting a really aggressive prostate cancer. He had been with the station since 1984. Butler e-mailed friends on January 4 that he was dealing with serious health problems, including a tumor near the middle of his spine. His friend Mike “Moose” Smith posts on the Raleigh-Greensboro Board of Radio-Info.com that Jay was soon paralyzed from the waist down, and the cancer metastasized quickly. Jay died Sunday evening at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, and his funeral services are Friday. His career also included stops at other Triangle area radio stations, including WDNC, WDCG, WYYD and WKIX. Listeners are sharing their memories and thoughts about Jaybo on the WQDR Web site here.
