WSIX Nashville Morning Team Heading For The House
Gerry House and longtime radio partner Mike Bohan
surprised the industry today with an announcement that they will exit the Clear
Channel station—and the radio business—on Dec. 15. That date is a year after
two other longtime members of the station’s House Foundation morning show, newsman
Al Voecks and sportscaster Duncan Stewart, were let go in a move House
vigorously opposed. Last December, House told The Tennessean newspaper he
“fought it tooth and toenail … I’ve been to the point where I’ve quit and
renegotiated and come back.” Katie Bright, who joined the morning show in
February from WAXX Eau Claire, Wis., was not mentioned in this morning’s
announcement and will presumably stay on as PD Keith Kaufman conducts and
extensive search for a new morning show. Kaufman can be reached at mornings@wsix.com. Watch an emotional video of this morning’s announcement
here.
House, who has been a successful radio personality for more than 30 years with numerous awards to his credit, plans to devote his time to other endeavors, including a book he has told Radio-Info.com he is writing about his experiences in the business. He will remain on the WSIX payroll in a role a station release describes as “a contributor, writer and consigliere.” House was inducted into the Country Radio DJ Hall of Fame in 2009. He is also a songwriter with several hits to his credit and more than 40 cuts.
