WMMS and RoverFest 2009

WMMS (100.7) and Rover’s Morning Glory held its annual RoverFest in Cleveland, drawing over 10,000 fans on Friday, July 24. Vendors, bands, and copious amounts of beer were present at the outdoor festival, which was highlighted by Rover’s yearly search for 12 girls to be in his Miss Morning Glory Calendar. Comedian Jim Florentine judged the event along with Rover and show co-host Dieter. A one-hour reality-television special for national HD network MavTV was filmed at the event and will air in October.

They were off the air for two days, and morning show sidekick “Duji” had her bio taken off the show’s website. Rover’s Morning Glory, based at WMMS (100.7) was back on the air today, complete with explanations. Cleveland’s WOIO-TV reports that Duji is not only back on the show’s website, she’s also back on the show. She and Rover admitted they were a couple for a number of years, but the show, and an affair by Rover, added tension to the relationship. In addition, recent relationships involving Duji & Rover fueled even more anxiety between them. However, in the past several days, both have been able to work through their differences, and the show is back together. The syndicated Rover’s Morning Glory originates at WMMS. The Radio-Info Cleveland board is buzzing about the show here.

When John Gorman published “The Buzzard: Inside The Glory Days Of Cleveland Rock Radio” a few years ago, it definitely made one sorry that the former WMMS Cleveland PD wasn’t applying that station’s eclecticism and championing of new music to today’s radio in some form. Late last month, Gorman returned to active duty as consultant of crosstown WNWV, as that station segued from Smooth Jazz to Triple-A as “Boom 107.3.”
