More good news for Rickey Smiley. His syndicated morning show adds another new affiliate – on top of three new affiliates last week and a rumored additional affiliate in the Carolinas to debut. This one is in his home town of Birmingham on the recently re-launched “Neo-Soul” WENN (101.9), owned by Cox. He started on the air March 9, 2010. The station previously did not have anyone in morning drive. It recently launched its new format on February, 16.

Radio-Info.com is saddened to report the death of Urban radio veteran Tre Black. He was 41. Black was found dead on Sunday, March 7, from an apparent heart attack. The young radio DJ was known for his big personality and even bigger dreams. He worked in several markets over the course of his career including New Orleans (on KNOU), in Los Angeles (on KKBT “The Beat”) and New York (on WWPR “Power 105.1”), but he's best known for his years as night jock on WJLB Detroit, where he started his now infamous “Black List.”

The theft of an estimated $10,000 in equipment included the hard drive that contained all the Perry Broadcasting station’s music, says KSWO. KJMZ jock Joe Biggs says “I actually had to hook up my laptop and played some music off of there.” GM Joy Chapman says it’s been a trying year, starting off with the loss of the tower during an ice storm. The burglary at the East Lee Boulevard studios happened early Friday morning, and the culprits made away with computers, monitors, TVs, webcams and two transmitter tubes – tubes the station was using to get back up to full power. The ratings company offers House Oversight Committee Chairman Ed Towns (D-NY) a package of changes to improve the minority representation in the People Meter sample. Under its proposal, it will begin doing face-to-face recruiting of potential PPM panel members in July, and it expects to be using in-person recruiting “in the high-density black and Hispanic areas in the top 25 PPM markets" by year-end 2010. In terms of selecting the sample, it will employ “ABS” – Address Based Sampling – in all 50 PPM markets by next year.
